This Football Stuff is Hard

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Right off, I'd like to say that I have never played organized football at any level - not Pop Warner, High School, College, nor Pro.  I played a bit in the snow with my friends when I was a kid, and can probably throw a spiral, if called upon, but I've never put on the pads.  I've watched pro football as a fan for many years, but couldn't run a sub 5 second 40 if my life depended on it.  I'm a donkey, get it?

But even I can tell you that if neither team manages to score in overtime, you've got a tie.  And if I know that, then a ten-year veteran NFL quarterback should know that.  And that's why, Mr. Donovan McNabb, I have shipped you a copy of Football for Dummies, courtesy of that online bookstore named after a really big South American river.

Update: USPS tells me the book was delivered this morning.  Hopefully he'll have a chance to read it before Sunday.

Gallopin' Gertie

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Gallopin' Gertie68 years ago today, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge failed in spectacular fashion. Affectionately known as Gallopin' Gertie for her bizarre oscillations, she came down only four months after opening to the public and took a small dog with her.

Yesterday, in a far less spectacular fashion, some dude over at freerepublic.com found out what happens when you hotlink one of my images.  Particularly, the Fonz jumping the shark image.  Yes, again. Sigh...
