Monday and Thursday Night Lights
Monday, November 26th, 2007Monday Night Football
I just finished watching the Fish Bowl on Monday Night Football. I'd say it was a trainwreck, but shipwreck is probably more appropriate. Heinz Lake, having received approximately 400 inches of rain, succeeded in providing the worst possible conditions for a professional football game between the Steelers and the Dolphins. The final score could have been from a baseball or hockey game (or one of my bowling scores), and it took 'em nearly 60 minutes to score anything. My favorite moment - a punt which came down and did not bounce. It literally stuck in the field like a lawn dart. No players were drowned, but at least three were treated for the bends.
Thursday Night Football
Later this week, we'll be treated to what's likely to be a preview of the NFC Championship game, with the 10-1 Packers visiting the 10-1 Cowboys. A few weeks ago, we got a similar treat on the AFC side of things with the unbeaten Patriots narrowly defeating the Colts. I have no reason to believe this game will be any less exciting than that one was. It will, however, be a bit less accessible than that one, as it is one of the games this year only available on the NFL Network.
This has a peculiar and personal effect on me because due to a twist of fate, the love of two small children (not to mention their mother), and my easy-going nature, it means I'll be enjoying the game at home with my Lady Friend, her kids - and her ex-husband. He's not a bad guy, mind you - I actually kinda like him. But, well, still...it's a little weird, ya know?
