That's Gonna Leave A Mark

Last week was the 20th anniversary of Joe Theismann's Leg. For those of you who don't know who Joe Theismann is, he was a quarterback for the Washington Redskins from 1978 until Monday, November 20th, 1985. On that date, New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor broke Theismann's leg in such spectacular fashion that ABC had to replay the shot several dozen times in case there were any viewers who hadn't thrown up the first time.
For those of you with the ghoulish desire to witness it, click here. I suggest clearing a path to the bathroom first.
Theismann's football career was finished from that moment, leaving him free to pursue a career in broadcasting. Joe currently co-hosts ESPN's Sunday Night Football, and will replace John Madden on the Monday Night Football broadcast in 2006. Judging by the following Theismann quote, this may not be a good thing:
"Nobody in the game of football should be called a genius. A genius is somebody like Norman Einstein."
